同种异名：豪猪棘冠藻Corethron hystrix Hensen，1887
藻体细胞圆柱状，两壳面隆起呈球状，壳缘生1圈长刺。色素体小盘状，多数。
广布性种。
除南极外，其他海域均产。中国各海皆有分布。南黄海2001年11月曾出现较多(王 俊，2003)。作者于2005年2月在青岛沿海，3月在北黄海亦曾观察到数量较多的本种， 且细胞个体较大(如图g)。
